Azevedo was born on November 21, 1981 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His family practically has a dynasty in Water Polo, his father played on the Brazilian national team, and his sister plays professionally. During the 2004 Olympics, Azevedo scored 15 goals, earning second place for goals scored in the tournament.
